Installations

Alongside her studio practice, Amanda Burton has created and led a number of large-scale collaborative installation projects exploring light, shadow, material and place.

Developed for Light Night Leeds between 2014–2017, these immersive public works brought together artists, community participants and site-specific research to create temporary environments shaped by atmosphere, history and collective making.

Working as both lead artist and project manager, Amanda collaborated with groups of up to 100 participants to develop installations inspired by architecture, mapping, memory and the hidden narratives held within landscapes and collections.

Genera

Genera was a large-scale illuminated installation created for Light Night Leeds 2017 in response to the Leeds Library Special Collections and the Gott Bequest of botanical books.

Working with a large community of contributing artists and participants, the project explored botanical structures, growth systems and natural pattern through drawing, projection, light and sculptural form.

At the centre of the installation stood a large hand-built geodesic dome constructed from cardboard and translucent surfaces, glowing from within and surrounded by projected imagery and collaborative artworks.

Verge

Verge explored ideas of mapping, industry and hidden connections within the West Yorkshire landscape.

Created at Inkwell Arts, the installation used thread and spatial drawing to trace the coordinates of local mills across the region — transforming industrial geography into an immersive suspended environment of line, tension and shadow.

The work reflected an ongoing interest in place, memory and the invisible structures that shape both landscape and community.
